1903-1904, Weller Arts & Crafts Art Pottery Vase with an exceptional crystalline glaze. Rare pot! Excellent condition. The following should be considered a conversation rather than a correlation to the price quoted. I am intrigued by this vase on every level. I cannot find this shape / form on any other Weller vase which is unusual given the fact that the majority of such products were typically slip cast. This outstanding crystalline glaze is equally unusual, not to mention visually stunning. What is the origin of this form and glaze? I found several Clewell vases of similar form, not identical ~ similar. Is there a French connection given Jacque Sicard and Henri Gellee’s presence? Though there is zero evidence that Frederick Hurten Rhead had anything to do with this vase, it is interesting to note that he was employed by Weller during the same period this pot was produced. Further, in 1905-1906 FHR produces crystalline glazes for Roseville. Too coincidental in my mind. Oh how I wish this vase could talk! Rare and beautiful vase. Enjoy as I do.
