1908 Richard Teschner Art Tile. The image depicts graphics that was used in poster form for the 1911 Wallenstein Festival in Eger and was later issued on a postage stamp. Curious date on tile, as he was a member of the Wiener Werkstatte in 1908. Richard Teschner (1879-1948) Czech-Austrian sculptor, graphic artist, print maker, illustrator and he even designed glass for Loetz. He is mostly remembered for his work with Javanese influenced puppeteering which he toured with for many decades. The image in the tile is of Albrecht von Wallenstein, hero of the 30 years war, with his horse and the castle of Eger in the background embroiled in battle flames and cannon balls flying. The tile measures approximately 6” square with an overall outer frame dimension of 9” square. Original frame, which we did open to find no marks on the tile. Rare would be an understatement and unobtainable would be a more descriptive term for this object.
