Circa 1890 Diptych of Two Allegorical Tiles Framed in dark fumed quarter sawn oak frame with gilt liner. English or American? I think American though there are no makers marks present. The grid pattern to the back implies an English origin as it is the same grid / grill pattern used by W & E Corn / Henry Richardson Tile Co. The condition is excellent though both tiles have the usual sporadic crazing which is typical of most Victorian tiles. Very small chip at left tile at shoulder of male angelic figure and a few sporadic small and inconsequential bruises to the amber slip glaze. Each tile measures 6” square while the overall outer frame size is 16 5/8” by 10 1/8”. I wish that I could identify the specific sculptor, but he or she was very good!
