Dynamic and Architectural French Art Deco Vases by D’Argyl. D’Argyl is best known for their Art Deco glass; however, they did produce pottery though usually of more mundane designs ~ not in this case! These are the best examples of their pottery we’ve ever encountered. Architects contemporaneous with these vessels would applaud, as I applaud here. Both vases are signed D’Argyl at bottom of vase and there is a name debossed at side of vase which is obscured by glaze and difficult to read. I question if there is indeed an architect’s hand in this design as I can certainly see such patterning on a terracotta building facade. Six hexagonal at the bases with triangular panels that rise to the top to form a three-sided top opening. Three panels of symmetrical stylized floral motifs cascade to the base with alternating panels of protruding triangular ribbing. Color, form and texture collaborating in harmony. Each vase measures 12” tall. The condition to both is excellent having no chips, no cracks, and no repairs; however, note the differing shades of color from vase to vase.
