An Aesthetic Movement Japonesque Patinated Bronze Table. American, 1880-1890. A simple design overall with its bamboo legs wrapped in applied rope which suspends its top and low section and yet with much business going on about the surface. The top with a central flower blossom, a snail, a grasshopper, a spread winged bumble bee, and sprig of vegetation amidst Japanesque geometric patterning. Lower shelf of similar configuration though much understated. Searched thoroughly for a manufacturer mark but found none; however, we feel confident that its origins are from the Meriden, Connecticut region as it was definitively the brass and bronze capital of the world at that time. Further, you will find these same applied insects on Meriden Aesthetic stands, frames, etc. Condition is very, very, good having no breaks or repairs and the patinated surface is delicious; however, it does appear that the lower section must have been used as a plant holder which the ring of verde green oxidization would imply. Overall height is 33 1/2” and approximately 24” in diameter. Note: Includes a 26” in diameter 3/8” thick glass top.
