A Pottery Jardiniere by Ditmar Urbach in a line of pottery that they called “alienware”. Aesthetically pleasant at every vantage point with an overall architectural form and lovely glaze contrast from the black columns to its frothy taupe glaze and a lions head at each side. Clearly there is yet a Secessionist influence despite its late production of the 1920’s to early 30’s. It measures just short of 12” tall and 12” in diameter. The condition is excellent with only two very minor glaze bruises as shown with pencil points in images below. An excellent example of how there are authentic period beautiful objects that do not always cost thousands of dollars. Brothers Ditmar and Rudolf Urbach merged in 1919 to form Ditmar-Urbach. Sadly, the company was seized by the Nazis in 1938 as the owners were Jewish and then nationalized post WW II never to produce such fantastic designs again.
